Problem
SCO OpenServer 5.0.x, Digi multiport serial card, console error message similar to:

Solution #1
Increase the total number of ports using the <code>mpi</code> utility. For example, customer had 16 port external Digi interface, but controller card was configured to use 64 ports; ran <code>mpi</code>, increased ports from 16 to 64, recompiled kernel, rebooted, error messages ceased.
