Solution Detail

Use a password revealer (e.g. Mail PassView) to discover username and password for Outlook POP3 email account. Remove POP3 account from Outlook. Exit Outlook. Copy customer's entire Outlook data folder, typically in a location similar to c:\documents and settings\customer name\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook, to a backup location. Delete original Outlook data files (*.pst). Start Outlook. Receive error message about missing outlook.pst file. Cancel out. May have to start Outlook more than once, but eventually Outlook offers to create a new outlook.pst file. Make sure the new outlook.pst file is in the same folder as the original outlook.pst .

Right click on the new set of Personal Folders. Choose Properties. Click on the Advanced button. Check the "Allow upgrade to large tables" check box.

Recreate the POP3 account.

Import the backup of the original outlook.pst file.
